IE8 Flash and inline player 11 Apr 2010 14:23 #2060

Hi -
First of all thanks for your component it is very helpful.
I have been having 2 issues with using AVR for audio.

1) In IE8, I get a flash not installed error.
I see that there has been some discussion of this in the forums but no real solution. I wouldn't just say "it is an IE8 issue" and leave it at that because AVR actually does work in the back end - I do get the AVR preview on the "edit media" page. It woul seem that the problem is the scrpting generated by the component.

2) I am not sure how to get the player to dispaly in the page with your component. It displays as a popup only. Either window or lightbox, but not inline. To get it inline I have to manually type in popup="false" in the avr code line on the edit media page.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I have been able to get AVR to work on its own as seen here

Well this is certainly something we should address. I think I am going to have to hack All Videos Reloaded to get around this as the author of that component is not actively developing.

In version 6.2 we are offering a new internal player that supports video - but does not support the huge array of streaming sites that AVR supports.

As for the inline issue - I think I never envisioned people using it inline like that so I hard coded in the popup. Putting in popup=false is the right way to get around that as we read the code entered on that line and it overrides the hard coding.

I'll look into a solution for the AVR and IE8 problem.

This post does answer the problem.

Users of IE8 should be instructed to click on Tools - Compatibility View

That was actually my thread on the other post. There is no real solution given there unless you want to count compatiblity view as a solution. The problem is not inherent to AVR though, because I can generate an AVR player on my site in IE8, without using compatibility view. It is only when I create an AVR through BibleStudy that I get the error. There must be some error in the AVR script that BibleStudy is creating. The trick is to find out what that is.

Compatibilty view is a "work around" not really a "solution." It means that if you want to use AVR with bible study, you need to have a banner on your page instructing the viewer to use compatibility view.
