TOPIC: download button not showing up

download button not showing up 21 Dec 2009 04:37 #1579

Hi!
I'm a noob on Joomla and finding your app was a real Godsend. Thanks for all the trouble and care in making it.
I'm redeveloping our church website and so am running a development site on my PC with Wamp. It's working ok and I've been able to get most of the settings and things working with Biblestudy.
I have a few hiccups:
1. When I add a study and link an mp3 to it it comes up in the study list but the mp3 player sometimes disappears and then comes back again. I go through all the settings I can find and then it'll be back again when I refresh the relevant page. THe mp3 file plays fine then with the built in player.

2. The download button doesn't come up and I can't find a way to get it onto the list of studies.

thanks for your help!

Hey Jan, glad you find the component useful.

Some of the problems may be due to the fact that you are running this on a PC and one a WAMP server. We noticed some problems in how links are created in version 6.1 that might cause hiccups on a LAMP server. They have been corrected and will be in version 6.1.1 to be released soon.

I'm really not certain what might cause the mp3 player to go away and reappear, we've not seen that problem before.

I'm sure you saw that adding the download button happens in each media file record - it's at the bottom. You might check your source to see if it is there but not linking to the image properly (same problem as above).

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Perhaps one of our other developers might have a suggestion other than to put it on a live LAMP server as a test to see if the same problem occur.

Blessings,

Tom

Tom
Thanks for your feedback. I eventually started again with a new site and installed the biblestudy component first. It's working fine now thanks!
One problem I do have is that the download link is appearing fine but it's not showing me the icon in Firefox. In IE8 the download link is showing up correctly.
See screenshots.

PS
Is there a way to add the speaker image/thumbnail to this list in the screenshots? I've tried adding a custom field with the attribute {teacherimage} or {teacher_thumbnail} but it's not showing up anything.

Yours

hi Jan,

What's the url of your new site? Take a look at the source for the page and see what it is giving as the path for the image that is breaking.

Are you using 6.1.0 or 6.1.1_RC1?

In 6.1.1 I fixed a problem with the path to those very images. You can find the new version on this site under Downloads.

There isn't currently a way to get the teacher image to show up in the way you want. I've put that in as a feature request for 6.1.2 (or 6.2.0 if we get that far that quickly).

Thanks so much for all your feedback.
I've installed the new RC1 however it's still not working correctly. I'll be loading this site up to a test host soon and then I'll get back to you on this.
As you can see from the screenshot I'm really struggling with the formatting of the columns and the colours. I've been playing with the CSS settings but still have a few areas that I can't figure out.
What is the field name for the player background?
Also could you list the names of the column borders so I can add a border between each listing? I can do the first and last easily enough but for the "middle" listings I'm not sure what the bottom border is called.
The columns are lining up fine in IE but not in Chrome or Firefox, have you any thoughts on this?

Thanks again for your time!

Suggest you install the Firebug plug-in to Firefox (google Firebug Firefox) - this lets you examine HTML and styles. Just right-click on an element and select Inspect Element (or use F12 to toggle the HTML window on/off). You can even amend CSS on the fly to see its effect (although you will have to apply the change you make to the CSS to make it permanent). It's a great plug-in and esential for anyone playing with CSS ...
