TOPIC: Duplicate Topics in selection box

Duplicate Topics in selection box 08 Dec 2009 13:40 #1564

I'm using 6.1.0 RC5. Great job on this new version! I just noticed that when Topics are used, they show up as duplicate items in the Select A Topic box. For every message that is using the topic, that is how many duplicates will appear. I also see the same display of duplicate topicss on your site. Interesting though that the duplicate listings only appear using Topics. Is there a fix for this problem?

What a great catch, Bill. This was due to an error in a MySQL query that builds the topics list. I have attached it as a .txt file. Rename to .php and place in /components/com_biblestudy/models/studieslist.php

This will be a part of 6.1.1

File Attachment:

File Name: studieslist.txt
File Size: 16054

HI Tom!
I've been asked to fix the duplicate topics on this site as wel ( rmccmontana.org/index.php?option=com_bib...slist&Itemid=423 ) We are using Bible Study 6.0.11. I tried swapping the studieslist.php file listed in this topic..and it didn't work...probably since it is for a newer version. Do you have a fix for this older version?
I would love to upgrade to the most current version, but we have hundreds of sermons, and I'm too chicken!
Thanks so very much!
Tammy

Hi Tammy,

What I would do is try out 6.2.0_beta1 - but not on a production server. Do you have a test site or can you make one?

I'd export all the tables that begin with jos_bsms then import them into the new site. Put 6.0.11a on it - then install the beta over the top. That way you can see if it causes any headaches for your previous studies.

It shouldn't be a problem - I have over 600 studies from my church and I've regularly used my db to test upgrades. As long as you back up that portion of your db - if something goes really wrong you can always restore it and reinstall the old version.

Fortunately we've not had reports of that stuff happening.

I don't think the latest production version of 6.1 has that fix in it. But an alternate would be to backup the db then install 6.1.5 - and then replace that one model with the one from this post.

May the Lord bless your efforts and protect your db!

Tom
