TOPIC: The Original XML and FeedBurner

The Original XML and FeedBurner 30 Dec 2009 03:07 #1601

I have a problem updating my Feed but I'm not sure if that's from the BibleStudy Plugin end or over at FeedBurner.

I have updated a few details of my Podcast and added a new episode in the BibleStudy Plugin and Saved it and then gone back into the Podcast to Write the XML file and according to the BibleStudy end the XML file is written correctly. However the XML Source at FeedBurner is no longer updating. Previously I would alter something in the Podcast, write the XML again and then the FeedBurner XML Source would get automatically updated within 30 mins or so. This is no longer happening and I can't figure out why. I've tried Pinging my site from FeedBurner and even Resyncing but still the old settings remain and the new episode hasn't been added to the feed. I'm really confused and not sure what's going wrong. Do you have any ideas? Many thanks! Gareth

Not really sure what's going on. Sounds like maybe the filename or path has changed ever so slightly. Double check the path and see if it is the same in FeedBurner. I too use that service and haven't had any problems. You can also validate your xml feed. Try this service: validator.w3.org/

Thanks for your reply. The feed validated fine, it said there was a missing DOCTYPE but that didn't seem to be to much of a problem.
I have looked again at the XML in FeedBurner and it says:

I have done builds today and yesterday so that build date (of 2 days ago) is way out. I have also changed the email address from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that's how I'm checking whether there has been a change or not (as well as the fact that my latest episodes haven't come through).

If you have any further ideas they would be much appreciated! I'm going through the FeedBurner trouble shooting page as well.

Many thanks
Gareth

So previously, using com_biblestudy, you were successful in using FeedBurner? Try downloading the "Original Feed" link from FeedBurner to see if it is up to date. Seems like the FB Troubleshooting page has some tools to help.

Hi again. Thanks for your help on this. At the moment I feel fairly sure that the problem is at the BibleStudy/my website end rather than the FeedBurner end. I say this because when I look at the validator for my original source then I see that my updates are not in there (you can see the validator's output here feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3a%...llbaptistpodcast.xml) The new episode is called God's Promise and that doesn't appear in the feed and as mentioned previously I have altered the email address in the podcast in BibleStudy but this isn't being updated either. I don't understand why when I write a new xml file (in BibleStudy) this isn't replacing the old one on my website. The very first time this happened I did get an error message which may be important. It said something about not being able to write something. I assumed this was a temporary error so did it again and didn't receive the error message. Thanks again for any help with this!

Ah - that may be it. Check the permissions on the folder you are trying to write to. Joomla is supposed to report back errors like this but it isn't an exact science. Keep setting the write permissions looser until you can see success. I'm pretty sure that's probably what's doing it.
