On joonla 1.5xx we used Joomfish and some files that Genu created that allowed us to translate the server, series,File,Server folders etc...etc..
On joomla 1.7 We can create multilingual sites without the help of Joomfish but we are not able to translate our server folders, files, studies.. etc..etc.. any help on this area?

I never worked with Joomfish, so I can't say, how this was working on the Joomla! 1.5 / Biblestudy 6.2. I guess, Joomfish builds up internal lists to translate the phrases of a page.
With Joomla! 1.7 Joomfish is not available. But both (and future) versions of Joomla uses language files to translate the phrases. Even more, Joomla! 1.7 forces the component developer to write translatable code with phrases that needs to be present in the language files. Example the phrase 'Please select a book' is no more valid, it need to be a key without white spaces (and other rules). So there need to be a language file with a row
JBS_SELECT_BOOK="Please select a book". Different files are needed for different languages.

I see an advantage of this system: Somebody who translates a component to another language will not build a private / internal set of phrases, but an official language file. This language file is easy to share among other users. This will enhance the usability especially on such big components like Biblestudy.

To translate Biblestudy (and other components) to other languages, the help of translation managers like missing-T is useful. With this you see the missing phrases and get a fast first idea by integrated Google translation.

Every new language file is wellcome to be integrated and shared with the component. Please send it to us, if you have one!

The way Joomla 1.7 works is a lot easier when it comes to having a multilingual website. but I guess I should have clarified..
I know the component can be translated but can the content be translated?
example: I add a study with name "Study1" with media file located in my local server in media/JBS/English/ and file is called en-study1

on my other language need the same study I just added to show the name in Spanish "es-Study1" with file located in my local server in media/JBS/Spanish and file is called es-Study1

Im not sure if this makes a lot of sense... it almost look like I have to different studies in my bible study but the original study was added on Bible Study and the translation for this content was added on Joomfish files. I can attach the files I was using for this task or I can setup a test site with joomfish and bible stdy working together so you can see a clear example of what im talking about.

Is it like this: The study is partly in english, partly in german. The title of the study is 'How come Jesus into my life?', the german title is 'Wie kommt Jesus in mein Leben?'. The Series title is 'Life' and 'Leben'. and so on for topics, locations and so forth.

The non released next version can handle topics in different languages (but still has some bugs), but the study titles and so on is not planed to be translated anyhow. Should it be a new feature?

When Changing language on the site will it change also de media language or will it play the same file on both languages?
the way our site works is this.

Original Study entered in JBS
Title: Holy ghost
Server: localhost
Server Folder: /media/jbs/english/
Media File: en_holyghost.mp4

after translation on Joomfish and switching the language on the site JBS study list will show this
Title: Espiritu Santo
Server: local (or other specified)
Server Folder: /media/jbs/spanish/
Media file: es_espiritusanto.mp4

but also when using allVideo plug all files have to be in the same folder since you are {{embedding}} so this wont allow me to user a different file per language right?
