TOPIC: Display format, mp3s for two services

Display format, mp3s for two services 26 May 2009 19:24 #883

Hi,

I've been posting the old mp3s on our new archive site at listeningtohope.com/ , and I've run into a snag. We currently only have one service, but before last year, we had two. I have the mp3s for both services. I was able to add both media files to a single study, but I need to improve the display.

Here's the Studies List view--scroll down to May 18: Studies List view

The problem: The players take up too much room! Also, there's nothing to mark which mp3 is which--I'd like to display both "9am service" and "11am service".

And here's the Study view: Study view

The problem: Like in Studies List, there's nothing marking which mp3 is which.

I'm not sure what a solution would look like, so this might be an insoluble problem. (The closest I can come is, add a line to the Study text, saying, "The link on the left is for the 9am service. The link on the right is for the 11am service." Of course, that wouldn't help the 11am service.)

For the players-are-too-big problem, I could change my configuration so that the players open in a popup window. But that would leave the can't-tell-which-is-which problem. (Hmm... What about the hover-text on the download button? Is there a way for me to control that?)

I was going to suggest to have them open in a popup...

Perhaps, if there would be another field when adding media files ("Title", or "Comment") which would display with the icon, or player on the frontend?

Hmm. You could add two parameters to the media files:

Title/Comment Text: [enter a text string]
Title/Comment Display Mode: Display as hover-text, or display in plaintext below the download button. [Possibly: Display in the player itself, if there's a way to do that.]

How big of a change would that be? Would I need to wait for the next release, or is it a patch you could give me any time soon?

This is a pretty big change as it would require adding fields to the database. We'll put it in as a change request. Eugen, can you do that?

I've added it....

Hmm...

In the meantime, I guess I can change it to a pop-up player. And I can add this line to all the descriptions of sermons with two services available: "The mp3s for both the 9am and the 11am service are available."

They'll have to click on the download to find out which one is which. But I can make a habit of adding them in the same order, so that it will be consistent.
