TOPIC: Bug in menu-item parameters

Bug in menu-item parameters 06 Mar 2009 13:27 #682

I already had two message types: Sunday (for sermons) and Letters (for posting open letters from the elders, etc.)

I'm adding another message type to our Hope Chapel archive: Seminars, for weekend classes and the like. (We have one coming up the weekend.) So, I decided to see if I could make another "studies list" page--one that only shows seminars. Joy of joys, it worked!

But I noticed a bug.

I'm trying to set the page title for this menu item, so that it says "Seminars & Classes". But when I enter the name and hit "Save", it won't remember the setting! It just goes back to the global page title. I can hide the page title on my Seminars list, but I can't change the title.

I'm checking out the code on this and will let you know.

Whoops! Cancel this bug report. I figured it out. Here's the situation.

The menu item has three parameters boxes: Basic, Component, and System parameters. I had been changing the "Page Title" parameter in the Component box. I was trying to change it, and it wouldn't save the change. It was forcing me to have the same page title as the global setting for the component.

But then I looked at the System box. That box also had a Page Title parameter, which was blank. If I fill in "Test", then the page gets that as a page title. And the value in the Component window is forced to be "Test", too. If I change the system parameter to "Seminars & Classes", then the component value changes, too.

That makes sense, though it's not obvious in the Component box that you're supposed to be changing the value using the System box. (The weird part happened because, when the System parameter is blank, it copies the page title from the global component parameter.)

Great catch - thanks! It may be that we are using a reserved name that gets overridden - not sure but at least there is a solution!
