TOPIC: Front edit edit after publish

Front edit edit after publish 07 Oct 2008 07:19 #292

Thank you for this awesome component!

I do have a question as to what might be causing a problem I'm running into. I have setup a dev site for my church (church.web-jive.com) and after submitting the sermosn, the [Edit] link is visible in the upper left. When I click that, the site template loads but the component doesn't seem to display anything to edit.

Is there a way to track this down or a setting I haven't found? I have gone though everything with a fine tooth comb and have a good feel for the product.

I was going through the code and can't find what class this should using to edit the published sermon.

Thoughts?

This is a possible bug but to be sure, do this - go to the back end and under one of the menus of the Bible Study component choose the Parameters button. Set the parameters for editing studies from the front end there, then edit to the menu item of your studies list and click on the Component Parameters drop down and set them there as well.

It's not a class but simply some php code that checks the $user varable to see if it is equal to or greater than the level set in the paramters. If it meets that test then the links are made visible to edit. The edit view should do the same thing, showing only a blank page if somehow someone creates a link to edit a study but doesn't have permissions.

That may be the page where the bug lies so let me know if by setting the parameters both in the component and in the menu item the problem is fixed.

Blessings,

I just tested this out and it seems that you have to have the front end submission parameters set in the back end parameters as well as the menu item parameters for it to work. Not sure but I'll mark that as something to look at in preparation for 10.0.11

Thanks for the quick response... I edited the template and commented the [Edit] out for now so our pastors don't try to use this feature from the front end for now..

I would be happy to make you a site manager on this if you want to see what I'm talking about. This site will eventually be converted to a "church-in-a-box" offering that we will sell and host.

I hired our associate pastor as my sales person and the reception for this type of product is being well received so far.

If there is anything I can do to help with this, just let me know...

You could just put in the parameters No Front End Submission - then the edit links will not show up at all. No need to edit the template.

Glad you find use for the component!

I tried turning that off prior to this post but I guess as superadmin, they still show. I'll debug that a bit more and get back with you.
