TOPIC: Bible Study Is Running Slow Right Now

Bible Study Is Running Slow Right Now 04 Oct 2008 11:20 #279

Greetings!
It is taking two-three minutes now to load my studies list in the front end. My site is running fine, and earlier today Bible Study loaded with no problem. The Bible Study backend also seems to be working fine. I wanted to change the pulldown text Select a Message Type to Select a File Type. These phrases appeared to be controlled in com_biblestudy/views/studiesedit/view.html.php and com_biblestudy/views/studieslist/view.html.php. I copied these files to my hard drive and set aside a backup copy as well. I made the changes and then uploaded the files. I did not see anything change so I uploaded my backed up copy. And everything slowed to a crawl. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it? Thank You, Dan.

Probably the best thing to do is to reinstall com_biblestudy. You don't have uninstall, you can just reinstall right over the top. That should put back the files you changed.

As far as why its running slowly, it totally depends on what changes you made. There are a number of dependences beyond just the view and template php files involving the model and other mysql queries so its not a good idea to make those kinds of changes.

On the other hand, if there is a feature you'd like to see, let me know and we'll see if we can introduce it into a future version.

Blessings,

Tom

Thanks for the response. We actually have two separate installations of Bible Study. These were professionally installed by JoomaGroup in two separate directories. The second installation, which I did not change, is also very slow. Would a change made in one installation affect the other? Do you have any other ideas on this? Thank You, Dan.

Yes, I suppose it is quite possible for one installation to affect another. I assume the installations have separate database prefixes, such as jos1 and jos2 or something, so they address separate tables in the database. If not, then all kinds of problems could crop up.

Perhaps you can contact me separately from the "contact the author" link on the left menu and you could give me your url and a password/user to your admin side so I can take a look.

Stupid Question Alert: where do I find a copy of com_biblestudy? I followed the link to Files Location under Downloads on the right, and I downloaded biblestudy_6.0.10.zip but there is no com_biblestudy in there. On the JoomlaCode page I see the com_biblestudy files for several different languages but no English. What am I doing wrong? Thank you.
