TOPIC: Google Chrome issues

Google Chrome issues 12 Oct 2009 15:02 #1140

If you view our BibleStudy Page using Google Chrome the menu and submenu delay is super slow. Please go to our sermon archive area and hover over the menus and submenus and you will see it in action. It only seems to happen with Google Chrome. Any thought?

That page might be slowing down because of the many flash players that are loading on it. To confirm this, however, try disabling the built in media player, and use the AVR plugin for the studies.

If you find that the case, reduce number of studies that are shown at once. Right now it seems to show 100. Perhaps change it to 20?

BTW, the site looks very nice!!

Do you mean like Teachers and Series? I noticed about a 1 sec delay using Chrome over a DSL like connection (WiMax actually). The sub menus came up and the query was not delayed when I clicked on one of the series.

He might be referring to the fact that on that particular page, the cpu usage goes up to 20% in my case (chrome), so the page as a whole is going slow (even scrolling down) because of the high CPU usage. Perhaps connection speed may not be relevant in this case, but rather computer speed...

I decreased number of studies to show to ten and the menu responds properly. I would like to be able to show 52 weeks worth per page. Why would Google Chrome be the only browser this happens in?

Well, its hard to say. It might be due to the fact that chrome allocates a separate process for each tab you have open as well as any plugin that is in use. I cannot justify the high CPU usage just based on that, however.

you could try the Google chrome support group to see if others experience this. I did a quick Google search for chrome CPU usage and flash, and apparently other users have experienced this.

On the bright side, however, chrome is probably not that popular yet, so perhaps not a large portion of the visitors to the site will be affected.
