TOPIC: Automating the import of many studies

Automating the import of many studies 24 Jul 2011 04:32 #2692

I have several hundred studies that I would like to import into Joomla Bible Study, and doing them one by one would be very tedious and time consuming. I am wondering if there is a feature that allows to automate the importing, maybe based on some parameters or the file names of the media files?

Thanks!

Hi William,

We do have a component to import based on your mp3 files - but this will only work for Bible Study version 6.2.x. We don't currently have a version for JBS 7.0.x.

You can find the component in our Downloads area under Joomla 1.5 releases here:

I just installed JBS 7.0.x, and started to figure it out... I'm planing to upload hundreds of sermons so the update of that importing plugin... that imports mp3 tags and if it finds a ":" in it would take that word as a bible reference...it would be highly welcomed.

Has there been any developments on the Bible Study Importer for version 7.0?
I can't see it on the downlinks page and it looks really useful

I'm going to have to leave the development of that plugin to a couple other of our developers who originally put it together. One is in school so most likely won't be able to work on it until later this spring.

I would consider writing one from scratch but am deeply into coding other things for version 7.1.0 of JBS.

A suggestion - install JBS version 6.2.4 on a Joomla 1.5 install, then use the old mp3 import plugin, then upgrade JBS to version 7.0.4 on a Joomla 2.x server. This could all be done on a localhost or webserver.

If you need help finding these components let me know!

Tom

If you could point me in the direction of the plugin (and any documentation) that would be good. I was looking back at another post I made on here a few months ago and you suggested using it then, and sadly I never investigated it further.

Just to check, you're suggesting installing the older version of Bible Study and plugin to add the files, then update back to the newest version BUT that once updated the plugin won't work any more or will it work on version 7.0.4 if it has been installed before the update?
Reason I ask is it would be a lot more work to have to do that - install JBS version 6.2.4 on a Joomla 1.5 install, then use the old mp3 import plugin, then upgrade JBS to version 7.0.4 on a Joomla 2.x server - on a weekly basis, given the point of using the plugin would be to reduce data input.
