I know I asked this as a how-to in another thread, but I'd like to request the feature of a bulk media upload option.
Even if you have to upload like-items seperatly. Like, all weekend message mp3's... or all wednesday night PDF's, that would still be faster than doing it all individually.
I've asked around and I can't find anyone SQL savvy enough to help do it in the manner previously described in the other thread, and with over a thousand files to add, I'm staring down a very daunting task.

Two issues here. First of all, your specific situation.

What do you have? I know there are 1000+ media files, but do you have some kind of catalog? Some kind of excel file or database that lists them all? Are they all just in a folder somewhere?

Adding the records to the mediafiles table is the easy part (even if they are just in a folder somewhere). BUT - matching them up to the study records, that's another story all together. There will be some manual work - but it can be done. I can help you with this - if you're interested, but the more info you have, the better. I imported about 500 studies and media files into our system using an excel catalog file.

Second thing - your Feature Request.

How do you see this feature working? How would it match up media files with studies? We can scan a folder (either FTP or local) for files, and create media records for them, but unless there is some link - it'll still be a mess. So, if you can dream up the perfect scenario, what would it be?

Thanks!

I'm just after a way to say point to a folder with a lot of mp3's or PDF's and they are added to the database, or to do a mass upload of them.
After that, it's true, there would be a lot of leg work in creating every event. But it would cut a lot of time out of the process if we didn't have to individually upload.

As for what I have now, we have a pretty old-school site at the moment that has everything thrown into a table.
daytonvineyard.com/index.php?cat_id=29&page_id=144
And they all link to a few different folders. Because of the massive table, I have stopped posting some of the older messages, but given the dynamic nature of the database, with by-year sort-ability, I'd like to bring the older messages back again.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps, to avoid having to re-do a lot of the interface and input method, when a bulk input is done, they are linked to an unpublished message called "unsorted" and then you'd go through the media files and simply change the information to link it to the messages.

It is possible that we use a flash uploader to enable adding many files at once to an upload queue, and enable users to select specific media settings for each media file in the queue.
