So, I'm working on building our media library, and the list of studies is growing quite nicely. However, when you enter a new media file, and attach it to a study, the list of studies in the drop down can get long. Is there any way to apply the same (or similar filters - message type, speaker, etc) to the drop down list of studies?

Not at present. Might be something we can do through a parameter setting in a future version. Usually you are attaching a media file to the top study in the list (the most recent). We might be able to have a parameter that grabs studies only a certain number of days/weeks/months old on the list.
