In the old version I had a link to small group lessons (no media files, just text) by creating a menu item, then selecting message type "small group lesson".

In the new version there is no parameter option to choose a specific "message type" when creating a menu item, only "series", "template", or "teacher".

Any chance of getting back the parameters options?

So here is what you can do. Go to the Template Display Settings in the backend of com_biblestudy and copy your default template to a new one - name it Small Group or something. Then in the Filter tab choose the Message Type you want to use and Save.

Then create a new menu item to a studieslist view and choose your Small Group template from the Parameters. Be sure to determine which template you want to control the other views that might link off of your Small Group list.
